Convention was originally produced for an exhibition space at The Better Days Project club in Hamburg’s St Pauli pleasure district. The box reconstructs the original exhibition space, while remaining clearly a construction. A sheet of glass allows one to look into a typical white cube and at the same time bars entry. Inside the box, three floating objects rotate to music. A frieze consisting of shimmering silver fabric spanned on wedged stretchers runs round the space.
The space is also a resonance box for the music playing inside.
A disco track was produced for the reconstruction of Convention using an excerpt from a piano version of Somewhere over the Rainbow, played by Mary Lou Williams, originally sung by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz.
